Restorative justice, Restorative philosophy, Restorative work. All refer to the work that is bringing humanity, building relationships and community, and opening communication resulting in positive change in everything from disagreements to finding accountability for crimes that have been committed.
Laraine and Paul Mickelson help define restorative justice and give us a picture of how it effects people’s lives and the actions they take moving forward. They share a glimpse of how it can help people see each other as human beings, find resolution, trade judgment for outcomes that helps us understand each other better.
What do we WANT as an outcome when a conflict or crime occurs?
What is justice?
What is accountability?
What are the critical pieces that our court system is missing that restorative justice brings back – allowing for true vulnerability, investing in relationships and allowing for change that ripples out to improve communities?
Laraine and Paul have a long history of working on the justice system, conflict resolution and more, giving them a front row seat to the outcomes of our current systems of law and punishment (what isn’t working) and they have tools that they see resulting in life changing behavior shifts in schools, work places and in the criminal justice system.
