WHAT DID WE TALK ABOUT?
2020… it has been a year of change and “thinking outside the box” For Gaelynn. She has been “locking down and making music”!

Zoom concerts have allowed for people who may not always be able to take part due to being in a different geographic location… It has also made more events accessible for those with challenges due to disability… even things like chronic pain or having little kids at home.

Not to mention allowing lessor known artists to have a bigger reach.

What she wishes people would know or consider when thinking about disability?
– The language around disability is so charged… how we can think about that differently.
– Not to erase the identity of disability… but accept it.
– Disability as diversity… not inherently negative.
– Education, real and content filled, education around disability and the advocates recognizing the depth of the actions and the people involved. Let’s start in elementary.
– Disability – more than just “Disability awareness month.”

Creative ways to drive the conversation about disability forward,
Creative ways to raise money, etc. for locations where access is still not possible for a portion of potential patrons.

Gaelynn shares her requirements for her performances and the workarounds she will and will not accept.

Accommodations… they so very often serve to benefit everyone.

Who’s responsibility is it to start discussions about disability?
(Spoiler alert! It is an accessible action for EVERYONE! CHA, CHA, CHA!

And has a grater effect if it does not have to fall only on the shoulders of those with disabilities.

SHOUT OUT
